Laparoscopic surgery, also referred to as minimally invasive surgery, describes the performance of surgical procedures with the assistance of a video camera and several thin instruments. Dr. Ahlmeyer was extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to train with laparoscopy in it’s infancy, during her internship and residency in the late 1980s. She combined laparoscopic skills with the skill of performing total vaginal hysterectomies, allowing her to perform all options for gynecologic surgery when she created Yampa Valley OB/GYN.
Now, over 20 years after it’s creation, Yampa Valley OB/GYN continues to innovate by expanding our surgical knowledge to include the most current minimally-invasive laparoscopic instrument, da Vinci’s robotic system. Dr. Ahlmeyer is leading the surgical community by being certified to incorporate this system at the Yampa Valley Medical Center, offering the most advanced surgical techniques in a small, rural, mountain community. No other robotic systems are available between the Yampa Valley and Grand Junction or the Front Range communities. Dr. Ahlmeyer is excited to have taken the expansive time and energy necessary to incorporate new, innovative surgical skills into her practice. And the patient outcomes are outstanding!
